Город на юго-западе штата Южная Дакота в горном районе Блэк-Хиллс [Black Hills]. 59,6 тыс. жителей (2000), второй по величине город штата. Основан в конце 1870-х после открытия месторождений золота. Производство цемента. В пригороде - база ВВС Эллсуорт [Ellsworth Air Force Base]. Горно-технологический институт Южной Дакоты [South Dakota School of Mines and Technology]. Развит туризм, основанный на живописной природе и наследии Фронтира [Frontier]. Среди достопримечательностей: Геологический музей [Museum of Geology], Музей индейцев сиу [Sioux Indian Museum], "Парк динозавров" [Dinosaur Park], террариум "Блэк-Хиллс" [Black Hills Reptile Gardens], в пригороде Национальный парк "Бэдлендс" [Badlands National Park], неподалеку город-призрак [ghost towns] Рокервилл [Rockerville]
